Wilder, Abbas, Lanoue, Rios tops at GLTHS

TYNGSBORO — Greater Lowell Technical High School recently selected its February Students of the Month, based on the characteristics respect, effort, accountability, commitment and honesty in their classes and among their peers.

Courtney Wilder

Courtney Wilder of Dracut is the Senior of the Month and will be the valedictorian of the Class of 2020. She is in the Programming and Web Development program and is taking Advanced Placement courses in Environmental Science, English Literature, Biology and Computer Science. She works for IBM through the school’s Cooperative Education program and has completed course work in English Composition and Chemistry through Dual Enrollment with local colleges.

Courtney is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and SkillsUSA, and has represented the school on the national level. She received the Massachusetts Superintendents Academic Excellence Award and volunteers at MSPCA Nevins Farms and at school and community events. She plans to attend UMass Lowell to major in computer science in the hopes of pursuing a career as a data scientist.

Tayff Abbas

Tayff Abbas of Lowell is the Junior of the Month. She is in the Health Assisting/Pre-Nursing program and maintains a 3.87 grade-point average. She is president of the Environmental Club and a member of the National Technical Honor Society. She will compete in the Nursing Assisting competition at the upcoming SkillsUSA District Conference.

Tayff is a peer tutor, assisting classmates every day. She is described as an outstanding student who leads by example and exemplifies the Gryphon way. She plans to continue in the nursing field and hopes to attend UMass Lowell.

Cregg Lanoue

Cregg Lanoue of Lowell is the Sophomore of the Month. He is in the Plumbing program and maintains honor-roll status with a 3.7 grade-point average.

Cregg is a three season athlete, competing in cross-country, indoor track and spring track. He is also a first-degree black belt. He displays leadership, maturity and a commitment to his trade. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in plumbing and open his own business.

Destiny Rios

Destiny Rios of Lowell is the Freshman of the Month. She entered Greater Lowell Tech from Daley Middle School and hopes to study Medical Assisting. She competes for the cheer and volleyball teams.

Destiny is a member of the Student Council and recently represented Greater Lowell Tech at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Teen Wellness Workshop. She is taking honors-level classes and has maintained honor-roll status. She demonstrates effort, a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to assist her teachers and classmates. She hopes to pursue a career in the medical field.
