Sciacca announced Tuesday in an email to the staff that he’s moving on to Channel 7 in Boston after “37 amazing years at the Herald.” He also thanked the staff for their “incredible work” at the Herald.

“The spirit and talent in this newsroom is what keeps the Herald’s voice alive,” Sciacca added.

MediaNews Group’s Regional Publisher Kevin Corrado, including publisher of the Herald, said he wishes Sciacca all the best in his new post.

“In the year-plus that I worked with Joe, he showed he was a staunch defender of the First Amendment and a solid journalist,” Corrado said, “and he’ll be missed.”

Sciacca joined the Herald in 1983 and was named editor-in-chief in 2010. He previously was a reporter at the Lowell Sun and Lawrence Eagle-Tribune.
