DRACUT — It was a thrilling end to a hard-fought playoff series on Friday, as Dracut rallied past Westford, 5-4, to advance to the championship round of the Northeast Baseball League playoffs.

Dracut moves on to face North Reading in Game 1 of the finals on Monday at 5:45 p.m. at Dracut High School.

It was Westford that jumped out in front early on Friday, in the deciding game of the best-of-three semifinal series, scoring three runs in the first inning.

From there, Dracut pitcher Patrick O’Toole settled down. He ended up going the distance on the mound to earn the victory.

Dracut tied the game in the third inning before plating two more runs to seal the victory. The offense was led by Gerren Kopcinski, who delivered a pair of triples.

North Reading advanced to the championship series by sweeping Wilmington, 3-1 and 9-0, in the South Division semifinals.

Game 2 of the championship series is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at North Reading. If necessary, Game 3 would be Thursday at Dracut.
