LAWRENCE —A Dracut man is being held without bail after allegedly shooting a man in a McDonald’s parking lot in Methuen last Friday night.

Rodney Villar, 29, was arraigned in Lawrence District Court Monday on charges stemming from a shooting that took place at the fast food restaurant on Haverhill Street.

According to Methuen Police, Villar allegedly got into an argument with another man that led to an altercation. Villar then shot a man and fled the scene before being arrested by members of the Lowell, Dracut and Massachusetts State Police about 10:30 p.m.

The District Court Clerk’s Office said that Villar is identified on court record as “Rodney/Jose Villar.”

He is charged with attempted murder, assault with the intent to murder, armed assault with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, carrying a firearm without a license and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.

The dwelling charge is a misdemeanor with all other charges being felonies.

Carrie Kimball Monahan, a spokesman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, said on Monday that Villar will be held without bail at the Middleton House of Correction pending a dangerousness hearing on July 15.

Kimball added that the victim, whose name she would not reveal, is still in the hospital being treated for his injuries.
