TEWKSBURY — A Dracut man was charged with assault and battery after allegedly holding a razor blade to a woman’s throat in a Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot late last week.

Adam Giallanella, 31, was arraigned in Lowell District Court Monday.

He was charged with one count of assault and battery of a family or household member, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of intimidating a witness.

Around 4:40 p.m. Friday, Tewksbury police responded to a report of an argument between a man and woman inside a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer parked outside Dunkin’ Donuts on Main Street.

A witness told police that he allegedly saw the defendant hold a razor blade to the victim’s throat, then flee after hearing sirens, according to a police report viewed in court.

The victim, who was sitting in the grass by the time police arrived, told police that she has known Giallanella for years, and that they have dated in the past.

The victim said Giallanella was supposed to drive her to Tewksbury State Hospital where she had a bed waiting for detoxification, according to court documents. She told police that an argument transpired after Giallanella accused her of stealing his money, according to the report.

A witness reported seeing Giallanella allegedly throw an aluminum can at the victim after she exited the parked car, then hold a razor blade to her throat.

When the witness tried to intervene, Giallanella allegedly turned to him with the blade, threatening him verbally, according to the police report.

The victim said that she doesn’t believe the blade touched her neck, and did not appear to have any injuries, police reported. The victim declined medical attention.

Police arrested Giallanella after searching in a direction pointed out by the witness.

Judge Stacey Fortes held Giallanella on $2,000 cash bail, which he posted that day. He will is scheduled to return August 5 for a pretrial hearing.
