LAWRENCE – A Dracut man is being held without bail after allegedly shooting a man in a McDonalds’ parking lot last Friday night.

Rodney Villar, 29, was arraigned in Lawrence District Court Monday for charges stemming from a shooting that took place on the night of July 5 at the fast-food restaurant on Haverhill Street.

According to Methuen Police, Villar allegedly got into an argument with another man that led to an altercation. Villar then shot a man and fled the scene before being arrested by members of the Lowell, Dracut and Massachusetts State Police at around 10:30 p.m.

The District Court Clerk’s Office said that Villar is identified on court record as “Rodney/Jose Villar.”

He is charged with attempted murder, armed assault with the intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, carrying a firearm without a license and carrying a loaded firearm without a license. The dwelling charge is a misdemeanor with all other charges being felonies.

Carrie Kimball Monahan, a spokesman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, said on Monday that Villar will be held without bail at the Middleton House of Correction pending a dangerousness hearing on July 15.

Kimball added that the victim, whose name she would not reveal, is still in the hospital being treated for his injuries.
