Motorcyclist from Dracut hit by ladder, seriously hurt, on 495

HAVERHILL — A Dracut man suffered serious injuries after a ladder came off the back of a pickup truck and struck him while he was riding his motorcycle on Interstate 495 in Haverhill on Saturday.

The unidentified 62-year-old was transported to Lawrence General Hospital before being flown by medical helicopter to a Boston-area hospital, according to a state police press release.

The Dracut man was operating his 1985 BMW motorcycle on Interstate 495 southbound — south of Exit 52 — when the ladder struck him, causing him to crash.

The ladder was carried in a 2009 GMC Sierra driven by a 38-year-old Haverhill man, police said. The driver of the truck remained on the scene after the crash and was cited for operating with an unsecured load, according to police.

State police were assisted on scene by Haverhill Fire and Police departments, and EMS.
