DRACUT — Police are warning residents and businesses that someone may be passing fake $100 bills in town.
They’re investigating the passing of counterfeit $100 bills, according to the Dracut Police Department Twitter page Friday afternoon.
“If someone gives you a $100 bill look carefully, it could be a movie prop,” police wrote.
The counterfeit bill they posted on Twitter read: “For Motion Picture Use Only.”
Police Chief Peter Bartlett said Friday that the two counterfeit bills were turned into police from two establishments over the past couple months and he wanted to let local businesses know about this in case large bills come into their possession.
“We want the businesses to be aware that these are out there and being circulated in town and really check their $100 bills. They look real,” he said. “We want to make sure that the businesses aren’t duped into getting fake money.”
