Rachel LaLumiere went the distance on the mound, notching 3 strikeouts, and helped her own cause at the plate with 2 hits and 2 runs scored, as Chelmsford beat Dracut, 4-3, in a Merrimack Valley Conference Division 2 softball game.


In New Hampshire Division 2, Pelham topped Oyster River, 11-2.

Kira Garrity went 2-for-4 and scored a run, while catcher Sydney Alto went 1-for-3 with a run scored for CHS.

The Lions’ lone run in the top of the seventh proved to be the difference in a back-and-forth affair at Dracut. The Middies led 1-0 after four before the Lions took their first lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Dracut responded by tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

For Dracut, Ryley White starred for the Middies, going the distance with 14 strikeouts while scattering 2 walks and 4 hits. Offensively, White was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Sabrina Morse went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, and Jill Gomes went 2-for-3.

Francesca Frelick ripped a pair of home runs and had 5 RBI to spark the Cougars to the five-inning win in Reading.

Austin Prep (1-0) also received a home run from Lauren Sablone to support the 2-hit shutout effort of Logan MacDonald.

Sophomore right-hander Abigail Provencal pitched a 2-hitter with 6 strikeouts as Pelham won its season opener. Provencal helped her own cause at the plate with 2 hits, including a 3-run homer in the second inning, and 5 RBI.

Jess Slaton (1 RBI), Abbey Bevens (3 runs score, 1 RBI) and Lanna Pierce (double, 2 RBI) had 2 hits each.

Molly Cadogan went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI to power the Panthers to the season-opening rout in Clinton.

Mindie Breese went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kaitlyn Bremer, Michelle Woodland and Jillian Deshler also collected 2 RBI.

Emily Richards belted 3 home runs and drove in 10 runs while powering the Academy of Notre Dame past Minuteman Tech in a season-opening CAC softball game in Tyngsboro.

Kaitlin Scarano had 3 hits, with a double, while Jacquelin Denisco had 3 hits with a triple.

Keely Ford notched 6 strikeouts in 5 innings while earning the win on the mound.
