DRACUT — The Dracut team in the Northeast Baseball League pulled off an upset, sweeping Billerica in their quarterfinal series with a 4-3 win in Game 2 Wednesday night.
Dracut came in as the No. 7 seed and Billerica was the No. 2 seed.
Dracut now takes on top-seeded Lowell in the semifinals beginning Friday at Shedd Park in Lowell (5:45 p.m.). Game 2 is Saturday morning in Dracut (10 a.m.).
Devin Lambert proved to be a stopper on the mound for the winners as he went the distance and allowed just three hits and no earned runs while striking out four.
John Cormier had the key hit, a two-run double in the fifth inning that put Dracut ahead, 4-3. Lambert took it from there.
Chris Nugent and Jared Brule also had hits for Dracut.
The other semifinal series will have Wilmington taking on North Reading. Wilmington finished off a sweep of Westford in the quarterfinals with a 4-2 win on Wednesday night.
North Reading will host Game 1 of that series Friday at 5:45 p.m. before the series shifts to Wilmington on Saturday morning at 10.
The third and deciding games of both series, if necessary, will be on Sunday. The championship series begins either Monday or Tuesday of next week.
