Led by a solid pitching from Sean Nugent, Dracut pulled off an upset over Billerica, 4-3, during a Northeast League first-round playoff game Friday.

Seventh-seeded Dracut (4-8) will host Game 2 of the best-of-three series against second-seeded Billerica (11-2).

Nugent went the distance, striking out 8, walking 2 and allowing 6 hits. At the plate, he tripled and drove in a run.

Other offensive stars for Dracut were Jared Brule (2-run single), John Cormier (hit) and Brad Keefe (scored 2 runs).

Lowell 3

The Billerica Shamrocks defeated Lowell to run its winning streak to 13 games.

Joe Hartka and Chris Disciscio combined to scatter just 4 Lowell hits in the victory. Kyler MacDonald, Jack Glennon, Joey Dufour and Mike Sibert led the offense with big hits and aggressive baserunning.

Craig Barnes and Sibert combined for a key double play in the sixth inning to end a Lowell bases-loaded threat.

On Tuesday, the Shamrocks outlasted Andover, 16-14, to avenge their only loss.

Billerica overcame a 9-3 deficit by pounding 18 hits off of five Andover pitchers.

Jeff Goguen had 4 hits, including 2 doubles, to lead the offense. Kyler MacDonald, Disciscio and Harrison Tucker each had 3 hits for the winners.
