With another outstanding game by their stout and dominating defense, the Dracut C Football Team picked up their second straight shutout by wiping out the Grey Ghosts of Westford 30-0.
Charlie Kefauver led his fired up teammates onto the field for this important Merrimack Valley League showdown and Dracut’s defense responded early by holding Westford to no yards on their first three plays. Facing a long fourth down, the Grey Ghosts punted to a speedy Aise Pream, who returned the kick 40 yards for a touchdown. Michael Canney rushed for the extra point behind some nice blocking by linemen Jacob Beaulieu, Anthony Marquez, Max Barton and Nathan Ripley to put the Middies up 7-0.
The Middies defense stifled Westford’s offense to a quick four-and-out as Tyler Middlemiss, Alex Reis, Jared Fahey, Gilbert Ruiz and Jacob Nadreau used a variety of stunts and blitzes to confuse the Grey Ghosts. Lucas Ibarguen made a nice reception leading up to a Matthew Simpson 5-yard touchdown run. Peter Sawyer’s kick was good for 2 points as the first quarter ended with Dracut leading 15-0.
The second quarter brought another score for Dracut when Aise Pream flew his way into the end zone untouched on a 29-yard rush to increase the lead to 21-0. Matt Rossetti had several good runs on this drive. Defensive end Kyle Proulx had two tackles for losses as Yan Gonzalez, Javier Faria and Nathan Ripley tackled everything in sight as the half ended.
Lincoln Lessard picked up over 40 yards on the first three plays of the third quarter before the Middies turned the ball over on an interception. Westford’s good fortune didn’t last long, as Lessard made a sack on fourth down to get the ball back for Dracut. Devin Lambert then powered his way for another Dracut touchdown on a smashing 15-yard touchdown run with excellent blocks by Michael Tusa and Anthony Marquez. Lincoln Lessard recovered the ensuing kickoff to put the Middies in fine field position but another interception gave the ball back to Westford as the third quarter came to an end.
Aise Pream’s torpedo tackling caused a fumble that Dracut almost recovered as the Middies defense held Westford for negative yardage for the game. Ethan Holt and Denis Bourassa rushed for positive yards on the Middies’ next procession to set up a 14-yard sweep for another Dracut touchdown by Eric Ariosus who followed a great block by Alex Reis into the end zone to make the final score 33-0.
