Dracut 8 Lowell 7
The Dirt Dogs survived a late furious rally by Shedd Park to grab an exciting 8-7 win as they continue to get ready for the second annual Dracut Invitational.
Dracut tied things up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first after Kyle Hould stole home. The close game was tied 3-3 after the third as Matt Robichaud (2 doubles) doubled and scored on a passed ball. Allyn French pitched a no-hit shutout inning to keep Lowell at bay.
Dracut jumped out ahead 7-3 with four runs in the bottom of the fourth before Lowell tightened things up 7-5. John Cormier singled in the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
Matt Sideman allowed only one run in his pitching stint and Brad Keefe two had walks earlier, as Lowell’s potential tying run was thrown out at the plate to end the game.
Dracut took the first game of their doubleheader against Londonderry with a convincing 11-6 victory. The Dirt Dogs increased their lead to 6-1 after Cam McCullough’s fourth- inning three-run bomb.
Peter Sawyer and Michael Patterson each pitched an inning of shutout no-hit ball to frustrate Londonderry’s hitters.
The Dirt Dogs added five more runs in the top of the sixth, with Kevin Carney hitting a solid single.
Dracut 13 Londonderry 9
The Dirt Dogs’ offense continued their hot play as they defeated Londonderry 13-9 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Down 2-0, Dracut pounded out five runs behind Joey Petka’s (two hits) single. Dracut added another run in the bottom of the third on a Derek Ripa single. Dracut added another six runs in the bottom of the fourth to blow the game open, 12-3.
Jeremy Gray singled and scored Dracut’s 13th run to help the Dirt Dogs win their third game in a row.
