Tyngsboro 38

Dracut 33 OT

The Dracut Girls 7th Grade Travel Basketball Team lost a disappointing 38-33 overtime battle to Tyngsboro. The 10-7 Lady Middies continued to struggle at the free throw line as the Lady Tigers seemed to hit everything they threw up to take a 20-16 lead at halftime. Down by 7 points with 4 minutes to play, Dracut gave fabulous effort as they rallied to tie the game up at 31 all. Unfortunately the Lady Middies couldn’t carry their fine play into the overtime period as they made several costly turnovers.

Scoring for Dracut were Melissa Iannuzzo (9), Meghan Carney (7), Emily Cloutier (7), Lindsey Emond (6), Julianna Fagan (2) and Olivia Pantano (2). Erin McMeniman (4), Lilly King (2) and Julia Otoski (1) had rebounds as the team welcomed back talented guard Jaxy Marquez (out all season with a broken wrist) with a rousing ovation. The girls’ joy was short-lived as they learned that Erin McMeniman will miss the rest of the year with a knee injury. The injury-plagued team sends out their best wishes and hopes for a quick recovery for Erin as they will surely miss her passion and all-out hustle on the court.

North Andover 51

Dracut 32

Despite dropping a frustrating 51-32 decision to an undefeated North Andover squad, the Dracut Boys 6th Grade Travel Basketball Team put an early scare into their talented opponents. The Middies played well in the first half, trailing by 5 as they went into to the break down 22-17. Two quick baskets got Dracut within 1 point before several turnovers allowed the Scarlet Knights to pull away with their exceptional offense.

Cam McCullough (11 points, 5 rebounds) battled hard throughout the game with Aise Pream (6), Mitchell Monette (4), Colby Manzueta (4), William Peters (3), Jovan Aigbekaen (2) and Michael Patterson (2) also scoring for the Middies. Kevin Carney had 4 rebounds to go along with a nifty steal by Jeremy Gray. Jaeden Hylton, Josh Hastie and Tyler Pacheco gave tremendous effort for the 18-6 Dracut team.
