Colby Manzueta’s 16 points led the Dracut Fifth Grade Boys Travel Basketball Team past a tough Lawrence squad, 57-53. The Middies took the lead early and never trailed in this high-scoring game as they led 25-20 at the end of the first half.
Jeremy Gray and Aise Pream added eight points apiece with Mitchell Monette (5), Michael Patterson (4) and Josh Hastie (2) also scoring. Rebounding well were Cam McCullough (14), Jovan Aigbekaen (6) and William Peters (3). Kevin Carney and Kyle Hould had steals as Tyler Pacheco helped Dracut win their 10th game in a row and improve to 21-3 on the season.
Wakefield White 17
A solid performance by Kevin Carney (8 points and 5 rebounds) helped the Dracut Fifth Grade Boys Travel Basketball Team crush Wakefield White 43-17. The convincing win extended the 22-3 Middies’ winning streak to 11 games. Dracut took the lead early in this one and never looked back as they went into the half up 20-8. Once again, a balanced rotation with good passing brought scoring from Cam McCullough (9), Colby Manzueta (9), Michael Patterson (4), Mitchell Monette (4), Josh Hastie (3), Jeremy Gray (2), Aise Pream (2) and Kyle Hould (2). William Peters (3) and Jovan Aigbekaen (1) pulled down rebounds as Tyler Pacheco picked up two steals.
Tewksbury Red 36
The boys barely escaped with a 37-36 win over a tenacious Tewksbury Red squad in an error plagued match. Both teams started slowly in the contest, but the Middies led 18-11 at the break. Dracut finally woke up and extended their lead to 16 points early in the second half and the game looked to be in control and over.
But that was far from the case. A disturbing trend of mental meltdowns, poor decisions, bad passing, mediocre free-throw shooting and lack of poise by the Middies allowed the Redmen to tie things up 34-34 with 1:30 left. Only a clutch free throw by Cam McCullough (13 points) with 29 seconds remaining allowed Dracut to stretch their winning streak to 12 games.
Aise Pream (8), Mitchell Monette (6), Michael Patterson (3), Kevin Carney (2), Jeremy Gray (2), William Peters (2) and Colby Manzueta (1) also scored for the 23-3 Middies. Jovan Aigbekaen (2), Kyle Hould (2), Josh Hastie (1) and Tyler Pacheco (1) had rebounds as Dracut will need to improve their efforts before the playoff season begins.
