Cam McCullough’s (14 points) steal with three seconds remaining secured the (19-3) Dracut Fifth Grade Boys Travel Basketball Team’s 38-35 win over Windham. The physical and testy game brought a multitude of quick whistles and some head scratching calls against the Middies.
Dracut fell behind 4-0 to start but rallied to take a 23-18 lead into the break. Mitchell Monette (13 points) hit a 3 pointer to put the Middies up by 8 with four minutes remaining but the Wildcats managed to close the gap as Dracut committed several costly turnovers. A questionable technical and possession change against the Middies only added to the tense contest.
Jovan Aigbekaen’s two huge free throws helped protect Dracut’s dwindling lead as the Wildcats comeback fell short. William Peters (4), Aise Pream (4) and Colby Manzueta (1) also scored for Dracut. Jeremy Gray and Kevin Carney had rebounds with Kyle Hould and Tyler Pacheco making steals. Josh Hastie had a nice blocked shot and Michael Patterson defended well against Windham’s high post screens.
The Dracut Fifth Grade Boys Travel Basketball Team picked up its 20th win of the season with a 57-7 annihilation of Chelmsford White. Every player scored for Dracut, with Colby Manzueta (11), Michael Patterson (8), Kyle Hould (7), Josh Hastie (6), Kevin Carney (4), Jeremy Gray (4), Aise Pream (4), Mitchell Monette (4), Tyler Pacheco (3), William Peters (2), Cam McCullough (2) and Jovan Aigbekaen (2) recording points.
The Middies controlled this match from the start and held the overwhelmed Lions to 2 points in the first half. Kevin Carney’s 13 rebounds controlled the glass for Dracut with William Peters (4), Colby Manzueta (4), Jeremy Gray (3), Aise Pream (2), Cam McCullough (2), and Josh Hastie working hard under the boards. Making steals were Kyle Hould (4), Michael Patterson, Mitchell Monette, Tyler Pacheco and Jovan Aigbekaen as the Middies extended their winning streak to 9 games.
