The Dracut fifth-grade boys travel basketball team was able to slip past Billerica Green 36-34 in a tight game. The Middies led at the break 22-19 after a classic give-and-take battle. The start of the second half saw Dracut quickly extended its lead to 26-19 and expand it to eight points before the Chiefs tied things up 28-28.
Cam McCullough (14 points) hit two free throws to put Dracut up 36-31 with just over a minute remaining. Several Middie turnovers and mental mistakes allowed Billerica to close the gap to 36-34, as the Chiefs missed quite a few rebounded shots to tie the game up.
Mitchell Monette (10), Aise Pream (6), Michael Patterson (4) and Josh Hastie (2) also scored for Dracut. Kevin Carney (3), Colby Manzueta and Jeremy Gray had rebounds with Kyle Hould and Tyler Pacheco making a steal each. Dracut is now 15-3.
An effective rotation led the Dracut team to its 16th win of the season as the boys streaked past Pelham 45-19. A 20-3 run to begin the game essentially sealed it for the Middies as they took a 28-7 lead at the half. They continued pushing the pace after the break and overwhelmed the Pelham defense as every player from Dracut recorded points.
Colby Manzueta (8), Cam McCullough (8), Michael Patterson (6), Aise Pream (6), Jeremy Gray (6), Mitchell Monette (4), Kevin Carney (2), William Peters (2), Kyle Hould (2) and Tyler Pacheco (1) scored because of some excellent perimeter passing. The victory extends Dracut’s win streak to five games as they improved to 16-3 this year.
