Dracut came out of the gates strong in their first game of the Merrimack Valley Youth Basketball League.
Continuing their momentum from an excellent Thanksgiving Tournament, Dracut displayed their high- tempo, high-pressure brand of basketball.
Dracut was led offensively by Michael Odiana and Meshach Dunn, who both scored 21 points, while Josh L’Heureux and Spencer Parsons chipped in with 11 and 8 respectively.
Doing a great job defensively for Dracut were Ryan Leboeuf and Zack Burgoyne, while Evan Gys, Danny Silva and Jaret Watson were huge contributors on both the offensive and defensive boards.
Jovan Aigbekaen’s (6 points) last-second rebound helped secure an exciting 36-34 win over a tenacious Reading squad.
A fiercely fought first half ended in a 13-13 tie as neither team could put the other away. Dracut went ahead by six late in the game before the Rockets’ rally just fell short.
Middies scorers included Mitchell Monette (15), Cam McCullough (9), Michael Patterson (2), Kyle Hould (2), and Kevin Carney (2).
William Peters and Tyler Pacheco had three rebounds each and Josh Hastie pulled one down off the glass as Dracut improved their record to 5-1.
