Haverhill 33

A hot-shooting Dracut team led by Cam McCullough (16 points, 7 rebounds) defeated Haverhill in the opening game of the Lawrence Holiday Tournament.

The Middies’ fine passing found open players all over the court. Also scoring for Dracut were Aise Pream (8), Michael Patterson (5), Kevin Carney (4), Mitchell Monette (4), James Fazio (4), Jeremy Gray (3), Kyle Hould (2), and Max Kelley (2). Josh Hastie played well on defense as the Middies held the Hillies to 8 second-half points.

Dracut 32,

Lowell 24

Dracut improved to 2-0 in the Lawrence Holiday Tourney by beating a tough Lowell squad.

Trailing by 1 at the half, the Middies came out strong behind the inspirational play of Aise Pream (12 points, 4 steals). Also scoring for Dracut were Cam McCullough (8), Mitchell Monette (7) and Kevin Carney (5).

Collecting rebounds were Jeremy Gray (2), Tyler Pacheco (2), Kyle Hould, and Josh Hastie. Max Kelley, Michael Patterson and James Fazio played well as Dracut won its 20th game of the season.

Dracut 23,

Billerica 17

Despite playing their worst half of the season, Dracut advanced to the semifinals of the Lawrence Holiday Tournament by beating Billerica.

The Middies had only 1 basket as they trailed a big and physical Billerica team 11-7 at the half. Enthused by the spirited play of Jeremy Gray (2 steals, 3 rebounds, 5 points, and multiple tieups of loose balls), Dracut finally pulled the game out. Cam McCullough’s clutch free-throw shooting (11 points) along with points by James Fazio (2), Kyle Hould (2), Mitchell Monette (2) and Michael Patterson (1), helped Dracut remain undefeated in the tourney.

Kevin Carney (3), Tyler Pacheco (1) and Aise Pream (1) collected rebounds in this defensive battle. Max Kelley played hard as the Middies improved their overall record to 21-4.

GIRLS

Fifth Grade

Dracut, 33,

Salem, N.H. 18

Dominating defense has been Dracut’s trademark all year. Once again the Lady Middies shut down a tall and talented team, holding their opponent to 6 first-half points, as Dracut won their 24th game.

The inside presence of Meghan Carney (11 rebounds, 6 blocked shots, 6 points) stopped the Warriors from any second-chance offensive opportunities. Jaxy Marquez’s (6 assists, 5 points) fine passing led to open shots by Lindsey Emond (10 points, 6 rebounds) and good outside shooting from Melissa Ianuzzo (6 points).

Also scoring for Dracut were Lilly King, Molly Jones and Julia Otoski with 2 points apiece. Emily Cloutier (7) had a great game under the glass with Julianna Fagan, Kate Simpson and Brooke Boermeester grabbing 2 rebounds apiece.

Sarah Wilson and Jessica Gooch hustled all over the court and harassed Salem’s guards during the game.

Dracut 34,

Methuen 13

Sparked by the defensive play of Lilly King (3 steals, 6 loose-ball tieups, 5 points), Dracut won their 25th game of the season by defeating Methuen.

Jaxy Marquez (9), Melissa Ianuzzo (8), Lindsey Emond (6) and Meghan Carney (6) led the scoring parade. Julianna Fagan and Kate Simpson pulled down 2 rebounds each with Emily Cloutier and Julia Otoski grabbing missed shots as well. Sarah Wilson had a steal as Molly Jones and Jessica Gooch played good defense.

Dracut 30,

Merrimack (N.H.) 19

Dracut defeated Merrimack in a highly competitive contest. Jaxy Marquez (11), Melissa Ianuzzo (9), Meghan Carney (8) and Julianna Fagan (2) scored for the Lady Middies.

Sarah Wilson (2), Lilly King (2) and Lindsey Emond made steals. Molly Jones, Kate Simpson, Jessica Gooch, Julia Otoski, and Brooke Boermeester played well, as Dracut improved their record to 26-2 on the season.
