Middlesex Community College now offers a nurse assistant training program that prepares students for an entry-level career as a nurse assistant or home-health aide. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the Massachusetts nurse assistant certification exam.
This 100-hour certificate program meets Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 24 through April 20, from 6 to 10 p.m., in the MCC Talbot Building on the Lowell campus, and includes four weekend clinical training dates (April 9, 10, 16, and 17) at a local long-term care facility. Students will learn the skills needed to care for residents in long-term care facilities and hospitals, including personal patient care, patient rights, how to lift and turn patients, safety, infection control, vital signs, record-keeping, mental health care of residents, and stress management.
To enroll, students must have a high-school diploma or GED, give permission for a CORI/SORI background check, and be able to lift 50-plus pounds. The cost of this noncredit program is $950, and the enrollment deadline is Dec. 14. Register for course number CAR 768-80. (This course is not eligible for waivers or vouchers.)

* MS Access: Course is designed for participants who want to gain beginning to intermediate skills in Microsoft Access. The course meets Saturday, Nov. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the Bedford campus. Register for course number TEC 702 30. The cost is $99.
