Their goal all winter was to improve upon their fall season. The Dracut Girls U-10 1 travel soccer team did more than that by winning the 2010 Tyngsboro Sports Center championship.

The Lady Middies finished their unbeaten and untied season with a convincing 5-1 victory over a talented Wilmington squad.

In the Wilmington game, an exciting first half saw Dracut take a 3-0 lead, as forwards Olivia Pantano, Erin McMenimen and Emma Doherty scored goals after some nice passing from Molly Jones and Natalie Tellier. Goalie Meghan Carney made 10 saves in shutting out the Wilmington offense.

Dracut applied tremendous defensive pressure during the second half with Christina Gray, Elizabeth Daley and Hannah Belanger keeping the action away from their goal. Goalie Melissa Iannuzzo made several outstanding saves and Olivia Pantano tallied two more goals to seal the win.

“I’m so proud of the girls,” said Dracut coach Julie Jones. “Their confidence and skills have grown tremendously this year. They believed in each other and really came together as a team. They were determined to win this game. I know this will help cheer up our teammate Sarah Bazarian, who couldn’t be here today due to illness.”
