The Dracut 8 Year Old Travel Baseball Team – which includes, from left, Joey Petka, Ethan Nicholson, Derek Ripa, Allyn French and Cam McCullough – started its season off by winning the Lowell Highland Sports Association 2009 Invitational. The first game featured some outstanding pitching by Dracut’s Jeremy Gray. Dracut catcher Kyle Hould kept the Lowell players on their toes by throwing out an early attempted steal of second base. Kevin Carney and Cam Michel paced the Dracut offense with 2 RBIs each while Phil Tesoro hustled out hits during the 14-6victory. The second game featured some excellent pitching from McCullough. The play of the tournament came late in the game when Dracut center fielder Nicholson made a long, strong throw to his cutoff man. Shortstop French then threw a strike to the plate for the third out ending a potential Lowell rally. Leadoffhitter Jack Dewing led the Dracut attack by scoring three runs. Petka, Ripa and Kyle DeRoma were on the base paths all day as Dracut went onto a 16-6 victory.
