It has been 12 years since they’ve been together as a family.

Milton “Spike” Schmidt’s five grown daughters — Justine, Amelia, Mary, Helen and Amanda — have been scattered all over the world, from New Zealand, to Barcelona, Spain, to Los Angeles.

The occasion for the reunion was a double wedding on Aug. 31 at the Radisson Hotel in Chelmsford. Mary Schmidt, 27, married Mike Ganas. Her 26-year-old sister, Amanda, a Dracut resident, tied the knot with Army Staff Sgt. Joe Dunlap, who spent the last 12 months in Iraq, and will return on Sept. 14 for three months.

The sisters were born in New Zealand and spent much of their lives there. Their oldest sister, Justine Skudder, still lives there.

“I got to see my first Boston Red Sox game the other night,” Skudder said. “It was real exciting. That, and catching up with everyone has been great.”

“It’s just great to see them all together again,” said their dad, Spike, a Dracut resident who works at The Sun.

At 88 years old, the family patriarch, Dracut resident Milton “Doc” Schmidt, a retired veterinarian, was thrilled by the reunion.

“It’s been a long time since we were all together. I couldn’t be more pleased,” he said, recalling a 1982 reunion that took place at his Haverhill Street home.
