Every Thursday night, Chunky’s Cinema pubs in Pelham, Nashua and Haverhill are offering to give every customer who donates a canned-food item $2 off their movie ticket.
This promotion aims to help solve a critical food shortage at the state’s soup kitchens, pantries and shelters, which are currently reporting alarmingly low storage amounts in comparison to previous years.
A spokesperson for the New Hampshire Food Bank recently described the available food supply as “the lowest we have ever seen.” Recently, at the Food Bank’s warehouse, which usually averages 600,000 pounds of food, caretakers reported having only 137,000 pounds on hand.
“This is a staggering number and the ability for these agencies to find ways to bring donated food in is becoming more challenging every day,” noted Mike Mannetta, Chunky’s marketing director. “Chunky’s Cinema is doing our best to help meet that challenge.”
Mannetta said any customers wishing to make a canned-food donation to a local food pantry and to see a movie for only $5 should head to Chunky’s Cinema on Thursday nights.
“Your help is much needed,” Mannetta added. “We are giving our customers the opportunity to make a food donation, feel good about themselves, and get rewarded for it instantly.”
