DRACUT — The concession stand at Veterans Memorial Park is now open and the park is a beehive of activity.
Refreshments are available at the stand daily from 4 to 8 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The menu includes specials such as nachos and warm cheese, chicken nuggets with your choice of sauces, hot pizza, and hot dogs. A full selection of hot and cold drinks, munchies and ice cream is always available.
As part of the new concession stand, we have modern and convenient rest rooms. These are fully handicapped accessible and are open during the stand hours.
The park is buzzing with sports groups such as baseball, soccer and lacrosse, with football scheduled to start in late summer. The walking trail and the kids’ area is being well used from early morning to early evening. The water spray area is scheduled to open on Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting.
Starting on May 26, the concession stand will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, weather permitting. The restrooms will also be open during the expanded hours.
The Public Works Department has been working on the expanded parking area. This area will include an additional 75 parking spaces and should be ready sometime during the summer.
The Board of Selectmen has appointed a committee made up of all volunteers who will manage the concession stand during the summer. The entire proceeds from the stand will be used for improvements to the park. A picnic area and additional kids’ activities are planned for the future. Many special events are being planned for the park during the summer.
The Garden Club held its Arbor Day activities there recently and the American Legion is again planning its Memorial Day ceremony on May 26 at Veterans Memorial starting at 8 a.m. Future activities will be advertised in the new Dracut Dispatch as they are finalized.
