A World of Music, Middlesex Community College’s spring 2007 concert series, continues with a performance by John Ferrillo, the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s principal oboist, joined by Laura Ahlbeck, principal oboe of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Richard Ranti, the BSO’ associate principal bassoonist, and MCC’s Carmen Rodriguez-Peralta, piano.
It will be held on April 27 at 8 p.m in the MCC Concert Hall (Building 6) on the Bedford Campus, 591 Springs Road.
Free and open to the public, the program will feature works by Poulenc, Handel and Granados.
Ferrillo, who grew up in Bedford and attended Bedford schools, joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as principal oboe in 2001. From 1986 to 2001 he was principal oboe of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York City, and served on the faculty of The Juilliard School. A former faculty member of the Mannes School of Music in New York City, he is currently on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music.
Ahlbeck is also principal oboe of the Bard Festival Orchestra and the Boston Lyric Opera. From 1984 through 1990 she was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York City.
Ranti joined the BSO at the start of the 1989-90 season and is also principal bassoonist of the Boston Pops.
Rodriguez-Peralta, a professor of music at Middlesex and director of A World of Music, has appeared as a solo pianist throughout the United States and Peru.
MCC’s spring music concert series concludes with two Middlesex student recitals to be held at May 7 at 12:30 p.m. in the MCC Concert Hall (Building 6) on the Bedford Campus, and on May 10 at 10 a.m. in the Howe Building, 5 Howe St., on the Lowell Campus.
