The Dracut Pop Warner B team advanced to the semifinal round of the Eastern Mass. playoffs where it suffered its first loss of the season.

Dracut opened the playoffs with an 8-0 win over Everett and closed its highly successful 9-1 campaign with a hard-fought 16-8 loss to Dorchester.

Dracut faced the Everett Huskies on a cold night at Dracut High. Dracut came out firing with a tough offense lead by Matt Silva, Chris Malonis and Mark Rossetti. The game went back and forth for four quarters, ending with a 0-0 tie.

Both teams now had the opportunity to get into the end zone from the 10-yard line in four plays. Dracut got the ball first and Silva connected with A.J. Gangi for a touchdown pass to go up 6-0. Artie Notini kicked the PAT to make the score 8-0. Dracut’s defense stood strong and prevented Everett from getting into the end zone on its four plays.

Leading the way on defense was Matt Young, Dustin Decker, Matt McHardy, Matt Perez and Shaq Shepherd.

Scoring for Dracut was Alec Laganas on a 60-yard pass from Matt Silva. Artie Notini kicked the PAT. Dracut’s offense got some key blocking from Joe Gantz, Dustin Decker, Nick Goodin and Matt McHardy. James Machado had an interception on defense. Other defensive standouts include Chris Malonis, Mark Rossetti, Matt Folan, Matt Young, C. J. Richards, Conner McAnespie and Erik Gallant.
