A World of Music, Middlesex Community College’s free fall concert series, begins with a concert titled “American Folk Tradition: Songs of the River, Rails and High Sea,” by MCC faculty member Susan Dill, soprano, and Laurie Walle, piano, to be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 in MCC’s Concert Hall (Building 6) on the Bedford campus, 591 Springs Road.
Free and open to the public, the program focuses on songs about sailing ships, trains and riverboats, three major areas of employment during the United States’ first 200 years.
Most of the original versions of the featured songs have folk origins. A few are by known composers. Many of the works are ballads, telling stories of the workers’ daily lives and hardships.
