Literacy volunteers

orientation Sept. 7

The Literacy Volunteers of Methuen matches students and volunteer tutors to raise the English fluency level and the basic reading skills of adults in the community who may be struggling with these issues.

These tutors can have a direct impact on these individuals and their families by allowing them to get better jobs and generally improve their lives as citizens in the community.

Literacy Volunteers of Methuen, based at Nevins Memorial Library, is holding an orientation program to introduce potential volunteer tutors to the literacy program currently under way at the library.

Tutors work with adults who have difficulty with reading or writing in their native English language.

The next orientation will be held on Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. at the library. To reserve your place, call Kirsten Underwood, literacy coordinator, at 978-686-4080 or e-mail her at
