OVERSPENDING, UNDER-TAXED: I can’t say I’m surprised by Lowell’s budget problems. It should have been obvious to residents that the city was spending more than it could afford. Property taxes there are very low compared to similar communities.

INCONCEIVABLE: How is it possible that Lowell spent $1.2 million on snow removal when it barely snowed last year?

YOUR CHOICE: To the teacher from Littleton complaining about how hard it is to be a teacher: I agree 100 percent, however, no one forced him to choose this profession and all that comes with it.

STAY LOCAL: I read with interest the story on Colleen Garry’s weight loss. As a taxpayer and voter in Dracut, I find it interesting that she would go to Jenny Craig in Chelmsford and a gym in Lowell, when there are two gyms in Dracut.

CONGRATS: Shame on the caller who criticized Colleen Garry. Congratulations to her for making this lifestyle change. Like many of us, she put others first — Colleen is doing what she needs to do and if the gym in Lowell is most convenient that is what matters — be happy for her. Kudos to you, Colleen!

REPAIR ROADS: Route 133 is one of the main ways to get into the city. When are they going to fix the roads? They are awful. You have to do 20 mph to avoid a flat tire.

CURIOUS: Why is it that the Asian community has full access to the boulevard to enjoy their water festival? The police presence there is totally amazing. If it is an event to celebrate their heritage, why is there so much violence? If they can’t get along and enjoy the entertainment, variety of food stands and the boat races, isn’t it time the city calls an end to it?
