STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Carlos Pinales had been a perfect 10-for-10 in save opportunities entering Wednesday night, but the right-hander was charged with three runs in the eighth inning as the Staten Island Yankees rallied to top the Lowell Spinners, 5-4.

Area baseball

Lowell (19-27) jumped out to an early lead against Ty Hensley, the Yankees first round pick in 2012. After Joseph Monge was hit by a pitch with one out, he stole second and came around to score on Sam Travis's RBI single. After a Jordan Betts walk and Mike Meyeres fly out, Mauricio Dubon singled down the right-field line, scoring Travis to give the Spinners a 2-0 lead.

In the sixth inning Meyers led off with an infield single, coming around to score on a two-out double by Cisco Tellez. After Deiner Lopez laid down a perfect bunt single, Connor Mullee threw away the play at first base allowing Tellez to score to expand the Spinners lead to 4-1.

The Yankees came storming back in the eighth to take the lead.

The Spinners went in order in the ninth as the Yankees held on for the come-from-behind win.

Aaron Wilkerson was once again solid for the Spinners, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings. He struck out six but walked three to limit his outing to five innings.
