LAS VEGAS -- William Foster of New Haven, Conn., and the New England team won a 5-0 decision over Karl Wylie of Lancaster, Pa., to advancein the 132-pound division at the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions.
Also on Wednesday, New England's Anthony Marcella of Smithfield, R.I., lost a 4-1 decision to Boubacar Sylla of Cincinnati at 141 pounds.
Four other New England boxers were scheduled to fight late Wednesday night.
Late Tuesday night, super heavyweight Cassius Chaney of Narragansett, R.I., won a 5-0 decision over Marquise Valentine of Toledo, Ohio, while 178-pound Johnny Rosa of Lawrence scored a 3-2 decision over Jose Mena of Las Vegas.
Rosa was scheduled to fight Edwin Oriz of San Antonio late Wednesday night. Chaney was scheduled to fight Terrance Walker of Minneapolis.
Also scheduled to fight Wednesday night were 165-pound Adam Paolino of Warwick, R.I. (vs. Deandre Ware of Toledo) and heavyweight Bryan Daniels of Worcester (vs. Hakim Lopez of Knoxville).
