Westford Academy senior Shane Wright made a diving catch in center field for the final out with a runner on third base as the Grey Ghosts hung on for an 8-7 Dual County League baseball win over Waltham on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Chris Murphy tossed a 1-hitter and slammed a pair of home runs to lead Billerica past North Andover, 7-2. Also, Wellesley topped Concord-Carlisle, 8-5.

The Lowell-Chelmsford game was rained out and will be played today at 6 p.m. at Stoklosa-Alumni Field in Lowell.

Westford 8

Waltham 7

The Grey Ghosts were cruising, up 8-0 heading into the sixth inning, but Waltham scored six in the sixth and one more in the seventh, leaving the tying run 90 feet away when Wright made his circus catch.

Ryan Pocock had 3 hits for Westford but his streak of home runs in four straight games ended. Cam MacDonald had 3 RBI and Wright scored 3 runs.

Sophomore Matt Tabor pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing no earned runs, for the save. WA is 7-7.

Billerica 7

North Andover 2

Murphy, a senior right-hander, improved to 4-0 by allowing just 1 hit over six innings. He walked 4 and fanned 9.

He greatly helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. He hit his first two homers of the spring, one of the fence in left field, the other over the fence in left-center.

Eric Eknaian and Cam Climo both went 2-for-3. Climo scored 2 runs and added an RBI. Robbie Gambale added a double and 2 RBI, while Brad Fisher tripled and drove in a run for the Indians (9-3, 9-2 MVC).

Worcester Voke 9

Despite a superb effort on the mound by freshman Josh Roberge, the Vikings were blanked in Worcester.

The Chelmsford resident held the powerful Worcester squad to three runs after five innings before an error opened the floodgates in the sixth.

He allowed 7 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4.

Roberge and Ryan Harding both collected singles for the Vikings.
