Senior right-hander Shawn Costa tossed a no-hitter and struck out 9 as Shawsheen Tech defeated Lynn Tech, 15-0, in a Commonwealth Athletic Conference baseball game called after six innings due to the mercy rule.


Costa allowed 1 walk while firing his second shutout of the spring. He improved his record to 3-0. Costa helped his own cause at the plate with 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Junior right-hander Casey Torigian tossed a complete-game 4-hitter and drove in a run to power the Gryphons on the road.

Andrew Primeau added a double and 2 RBI, Luis Medina ripped 2 hits and played terrific defense at shortstop, and Mason Bechard drilled an RBI single.

Angelo Pilato doubled and drove in a run for Greater Lowell (6-4).

Burlington (6-4) was led by Alex Heisler, who pitched a complete game for the win.


On offense, Burlington was led by Shane O'Halloran, went 1-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, and Joe Scali, who went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

The Crusaders dropped an 11-inning game to a struggling program in Groton.

Fitchburg had been 0-29 under head coach John Costello before nipping Groton-Dunstable.

Reliever Justin Watt pitched well for Groton-Dunstable, throwing 8 scoreless innings and striking out 9.

Nick D'Angelo had 2 hits with 2 RBI, while Alex Marken added 2 hits with a double for the Crusaders (3-7). Jacob Barnes ripped an RBI double.

Junior righty Chris Seidl did it all for the Middies in this MVC Division 2 game.

Seidl was the winning pitcher, firing a 3-hitter on only 75 pitches while striking out 7.

He made his presence felt at the plate with a 2-run double in the fourth inning.

Ben Gacek banged out 4 hits and had 3 RBI for Dracut (10-3, 7-3 MVC Div. 2), which clinched a state tournament berth with the win.

Zach Mellonakos had 3 hits, including a double, and scored 2 runs. Adam Barbosa added 3 hits with a stolen base and scored a run.

Wilmington managed just 4 hits -- by Ryan Carroccino, Jamie Hill, Evan Raffi and Jimmy Davey -- in Monday's Middlesex League loss.

Hill knocked in the only Wilmington run with a double off the left field fence, scoring Cory Stillings, who had walked one batter earlier. Mike Curtis suffered his second loss (3-2). Joe Scurto pitched a clean seventh, retiring Arlington 1-2-3.
