LOWELL -- Larry Cavanaugh Sr., a long-time highly-respected basketball official in the Lowell area, was recently honored by IAABO Board 95 for his service to the membership in a ceremony at Mt. Pleasant Golf Club.

Cavanaugh recently retired from his position of rules interpreter for the basketball officials after 32 years, and after 61 years as an IAABO Board 95 member.

He will retire to the position of interpreter emeritus.

He was honored with presentations from the board as well as a proclamation from the City of Lowell, presented by City Councilor Corey Belanger, after which he was "roasted" by many of his fellow officials from across New England.

During his officiating days, Cavanaugh refereed in the Big East, ECAC, Patriot League, Ivy League and more college conference, as well as high school leagues.

He served for many years as the youth and adult recreation basketball director for the city of Lowell.
