LOWELL -- The annual Bay State Classic Gymnastics meet, hosted by Walker's Gymnastics and Dance, will take place Friday through Sunday at the Costello Gym at UMass Lowell. More than 600 athletes from more than 17 gyms throughout New England are scheduled to compete. The athletes will compete on the vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise and will vie for both team and individual awards.
The meet is planned and run by Walker-Overs, Inc., the not-for-profit parent organization at Walker's Gymnastics. Once again, a portion of the meet fees will be donated to breast cancer research.
While the schedule is subject to change, Level 3-5 gymnasts will be competing from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday. Levels 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, along with Xcel Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond teams, will be competing from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Xcel Bronze, Silver and Gold teams will be competing from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The Bay State Classic meet is held under the auspices of the US Gymnastics Association (USAG), the nationwide governing body for competitive gymnastics that sets the competitive levels and rules for such meets.
Walker's Gymnastics and Dance will be sending several of its own gymnasts to the meet. Already this year, Walker's gymnasts have brought home many individual and team awards. The public is welcome. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
