Girls basketball

Sarah Comtois dug the ball out of a scrum under the net, tossed it over her shoulder, and banked it in with four seconds left in the game to give the Lowell High girls basketball team a 54-53 victory over Cambridge Rindge & Latin Friday night.

It was Comtois' only basket of the game.

Lowell led most of the way through, before Cambridge scored with 22 seconds left to take a 53-52 lead.

Sophomore center Alexi Schecter had 21 points, 10 rebounds and 8 blocks to power the Red Raiders (1-1).

Senior captain Sabrina Vail also had a huge night with 22 points, 6 steals and 4 assists.

Littleton 38

Littleton (1-1) blitzed Gardner 8-0 in the third quarter to take control of the game after trailing 17-6 at the half.

Sophomore guard Erin Dorey had a team-high 16 points for the Tigers, while junior guard Meg Ackerman had 9 points.

North Middlesex 71

Hudson 22

North Middlesex improved to 3-0 led by another strong effort from senior Mackensey Farina (18 points, 16 rebounds).

Freshman center Erin Antosh added 12 points for the Patriots., while Delaney LeDoux had 11 (3 3-pointers).

North Middlesex jumped out to a 25-4 lead after 1, and a 41-11 advantage at the half.

The twin-sister backcourt of seniors Christa and Carli Brent led the way for Wilmington, which led throughout. Christa and Carli scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Kate Cowden added 8 points for the 2-1 Wildcats.

Junior guard Lindsay Werner had 21 points, 9 assists and 4 steals for Groton-Dunstable (2-2), which roared past Fitchburg in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders trailed 38-32 after three quarters.

Junior guard Melyssa Langell added 14 points for G-D. Freshman forward Hanna Van Pelt had 13 rebounds, 6 points and 3 steals.

Junior center Loren Sullivan scored 17 points and junior forward Sarah Morrison added 13 points as Notre Dame Academy evened its record at 1-1 with this victory on Thursday.

The Lancers led 26-16 at halftime.
