CHELMSFORD — Several students at Chelmsford High School and McCarthy Middle School received Boston Globe Scholastic Art awards.

Since 1923, the awards have offered millions of students in grades 7-12, enrolled in public and private schools and programs, the opportunity to display their artwork for regional and national recognition. The objective of the program is to foster the confidence of young artists and to invite students to broaden their horizons while winning national recognition. The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are the largest and longest-running programs of their kind in the country.

The program is administered by the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and works are judged by respected members of the art education community.

McCarthy Middle students Jennie Huynh (“Hair on Point”) and Josie Lee (“Nighttime Ritual”) received Gold Key awards in Drawing and Illustration. Their works, as well as those of other Gold Key recipients are on exhibit at Boston City Hall through March, and will be shipped to the national competition. If selected at the national level, their artwork may be chosen for exhibition in New York for the National Exhibit.

n Lea Bosch, McCarthy Middle, Printmaking, “Tranquil Beauty.”
