"When the links of life are broken and a child has to part, there is nothing that will ever heal a parent's broken heart."
Zack's angels were back strong on Aug. 21, when Zack's Team Foundation celebrated its fifth annual Links Fore Recovery Golf Tournament at Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut.
More than 250 energized golfers, friends and family came to pay tribute and keep beloved Zachary Dennis Gys' memory alive, or to remember a loved one who has passed or is struggling with this deadly epidemic. Unfortunately, Zack at the young age of 21, lost his battle to addiction.
The Gys and Griffin families established Zack's Team Foundation in 2014. Zack's Team of angels has raised $224,388 to help 136 young adults receive treatment, scholarships or money to assist in securing safe, and structured, sober living.
This year, Zack's Team partnered with The Lowell House, a men's sober home, to form Zack's House of Sober Living in Lowell and their first home in Portland, Maine.
Louise Griffin, a force to be reckoned with, is Zack's strong and dedicated mom and president of Zack's Team. She is a pioneer and highly respected advocate, speaks about addiction, champions numerous causes, and has received many honors and awards - too many to mention here. She is always high-spirited, bubbly and one heck of a fashionista.
The mantra of Zack's Team is "Save Our Families, Save Our Friends, Save Our Future." This single event raised $70,000 toward that goal. For more information, visit www.zacksteam.org.
