CHELMSFORD -- The Chelmsford Garden Club recently donated $500 to the Chelmsford open-space stewards to help defray expenses in the stewards' volunteer activities around town.
Carol Cannistraro, a past president of the club, and Lois Alves, the club's vice president, delivered the donation to Phil Stanway of the stewards. The money will help cover costs of gasoline for powered machinery and other miscellaneous expenses. The stewards operate as an all-volunteer wing of the Town Manager's Office and have memos of agreement with the town of Chelmsford, the Land Conservation Trust, Conservation Commission and The Paul Center for Learning and Recreation.
Throughout each year, the stewards donate their time to help with maintenance and other activities at 19 public spaces throughout the town, including Heart Pond and Sunny Meadows. They also help with Boy Scout and Girl Scout projects, including loaning tools and materials as available.
Donations of many kinds and volunteers are always welcome, and the Chelmsford Garden Club is happy to provide annual support to the stewards.
The Chelmsford Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts and National Garden Clubs Inc. The club is open to residents of any town and has monthly lunches from October through June, on the first Tuesday of each month. For more information, visit
