LOWELL -- Two hair salons recently held cut-a-thons to benefit the Branch Street Fire Victims Relief Fund.

Student hairdressers from Lowell Academy donated their time and raised $231 for the fund at Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union. Clothing, toys and household items were also collected and donated to the Wish Program. Pizzas were donated by Espresso Pizza.

The Hair Cuttery, 199 Plain St. in the Meadow Brook Center, hosted its cut-a-thon on July 27. All haircuts were $10 with 100 percent of the proceeds benfitting the Branch Street fire victims. During the three hour cut-a-thon, Hair Cuttery was able to raise $800 for the fund.

Open Pantry to collect at LSMS concert

LOWELL -- For the second year, the Lowell Summer Music Series has invited Open Pantry of Greater Lowell to hold a food drive at one of their concerts. Contributions collected at the JJ Grey and Mofro concert on Thursday, Aug. 14, will provide food for the 1,500 people that visit the pantry monthly.

The gates at Boarding House Park will open at 5:30 for the at 7:30 p.m. concert. There will be a sign near the entrance to the park at 40 French St. All contributions of nonperishables are welcome.
