BEACON HOSPICE: Seeking compassionate volunteers for activities from reading at a patient's bedside and knitting lap blankets, to joining Reiki and pet therapy programs. Volunteer opportunities are all free of cost. Beacon Hospice creates an environment of hope, comfort and dignity for hospice patients who live at home or in nursing facilities in areas including Westford, Billerica, Chelmsford, Lowell, North Andover, Andover, Lawrence, Methuen, Haverhill, Merrimac, Amesbury, Newburyport and Salisbury. New volunteers are asked to complete an application and participate in an 8-10 hour group training program or a one-on-one, 5-hour training. The next training session will be July 16, 23 and 30. MERRIMACK RIVER WATERSHED COUNCIL PADDLING PROGRAM: The MRWC seeks volunteers to lead one or more summer paddling trips (kayaking or canoeing), May-Oct. Trip leaders should have experience kayaking, but do not need experience leading paddling trips or trained in assisting special needs.
