Mother's Day is here again. It's easy enough to go out and buy flowers and candy. However, why not try to give a gift that will appeal to her passion and interests. A meaningful photo given in a creative presentation. Mom's favorite pastime all wrapped in a unique display will make her feel a bit more special.
Appeal to Mom's interests. Does she like to cook, garden or shop? Is family most important to her? Here are some creative gift-giving ideas that can be made for mom with everyday items.
- Framed heirloom recipes
Gather some heirloom recipes that your mother may have or you may have saved from your grandmother or grandfather. Frame (or frame a copy of) the originals for display on your mother's kitchen wall. Creating a decorative memorabilia wall of family recipes from past generations will be a steady topic of conversation in the kitchen.
- Garden basket
Create a garden basket that will assist with her passion for flowers, herbs and plants. Create a basket with a garden watering hose. Use this coil as the vessel to present the garden gift. Fill the hose vessel with garden tools. A hand rake, shovel, seeds and small starter plants and flowers.
- Tree limb photo ladder
Create a photo ladder by using tree limbs from the woods or backyard. Attach cross limbs to the two side rails with nails and twine. Hang framed black-and-white photos from the cross rails using twine. This photo ladder can be leaned against the wall or in a corner on display. It can also be created to have the photos hang from the side rails and mounted horizontally over a sofa or in a hallway.
- Hand and nail basket
Fill a container, basket or pot with cotton balls. Add colorful nail polish selections and nail polish remover. Add flowers to embellish the gift, a pretty ribbon and a gift card to her favorite spa or salon.
- Fashionista basket
Create a basket from a summer seagrass bag. Fill the bag with a stylish hat, beach cover-up, beach towel and sunglasses. Add a gift card to her favorite department store, and she's happy.
Creative gift giving is a fun project not only for adults but also a great activity for the grandchildren to participate in.
Wishing all moms a creative, beautiful and happy Mother's Day.
