BILLERICA -- With the new year comes another round of elections for the town that loves its politics.
Nomination papers are available for the 2014 town election at the Town Clerk's Office. There are open seats for selectmen, School Committee, planning board and other boards. The annual town election is scheduled for Saturday, April 5.
Two selectmen seats will be up for grabs. The three-year terms for Selectmen Chairman Dave Gagliardi and Selectman Bob Accomando are expiring.
In addition, the ballot will include two positions for Billerica School Committee. Joanne Barry's and Maryanne Harring Laurendeau's three-year terms are ending.
Town Clerk Shirley Schult's three-year term is also expiring in April.
There will be two open seats for the Billerica Planning Board. The three-year terms for Marti Mahoney and Patricia Flemming are concluding.
The final three-year term on April's ballot will be Paula McShane Lambert's seat on the Shawsheen Valley Tech School Committee.
The only five-year seat up for grabs is at the Billerica Housing Authority. Ronald Diorio, Jr.'s term is expiring.
Candidates for these positions must obtain a minimum of 50 valid signatures of Billerica voters.
There are also openings for Town Meeting members in each of the 11 precincts. Town Meeting members must file nomination papers with a minimum of 10 valid signatures of voters from their respective precinct.
The deadline for filing nomination papers is Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m.
Papers are available during office hours at the Town Clerk's Office, 365 Boston Road, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Candidates unable to pick up nomination papers in person may give signed written authorization for someone to pick up their papers. This authorization must state the open seat the candidate is running for.
