DRACUT -- With the increased use of bikes during the summer months, Con-way Freight, the Dracut Police Department, Lowell General Hospital, Atlas Sports, Patriot Ambulance and Girl Scout Troop 60276, will host a bike safety event for area families with children ages eight to 12 to encourage safe and responsible cycling.

The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. saturdasy at Con-way Freight Service Center, 22 McGrath Road.

Dracut police officers will demonstrate proper bike handling skills and discuss the rules of the road. Lowell General Hospital will provide helmet fittings and discuss the importance of helmet use. Atlas Sports will provide bike inspections and Patriot Ambulance will have a vehicle available for tours and safety education. Girl Scout Troop 60276 will provide event support and Con-way Freight will give away free helmets to children in need as well as raffle off four children's bikes.
