LOWELL -- A 16-year-old boy showed up at Lowell General Hospital with gunshot wounds to both of his legs on Monday afternoon shortly after police got 911 calls reporting shots fired near East Merrimack and Nesmith streets.
The boy suffered non life-threatening wounds, and appears to have been shot in the area of 327 E. Merrimack St., where officers were called for a report of shots fired about 2:43 p.m., according to Capt. Kelly Richardson.
Richardson said police do not believe the boy was targeted randomly and said neighbors should not be in fear.
Police are not immediately releasing descriptions of the suspects.
It was not immediately clear if the boy is a high school student.
