PELHAM — A report of driver swerving all over Bridge Street while his car emitted the smell of marijuana last month led to a four-week investigation and the issuance of a federal arrest warrant, authorities say.

Ricardo Pierre, 29, the car's driver, was tracked down and arrested on Monday for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, according to a release issued by the Pelham Police Department.

Pierre was arrested without incident at the Pelham Police Station and transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.

Police initially received reports of a car driving erratically on Bridge Street on April 14, police said in the release. A patrol officer located and stopped the car on Bridge Street by Jericho Road. The officer smelled "a very strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle," according to the release.

The vehicle was impounded and a search warrant was granted. The Pelham Police Department's Detective Division then contacted the ATF to assist with the case.

Following a lengthy investigation, the federal warrant was issued for Pierre on May 2, police said.

The Billerica resident is scheduled to be arraigned in U.S. District Court in Concord, N.H. on Tuesday.
