ACTON -- Owned by Jenifer Apazidis and her husband Chef Josh Buehler, the Red Raven Gastropub is a restaurant with a little bit of everything. The Red Raven has two bars, a pub, a bistro dining room, a regular dining room and an outdoor deck. The restaurant also hosts live music twice a week and the occasional trivia night. If you still can not find anything you like, the Red Raven changes its menu every six weeks or so to give customers a chance to try something new.
According to Apazidis, the Red Raven has its own tag line, "notably distinctive, surprisingly local," which describes the restaurant perfectly. The restaurant is surprisingly sophisticated and modern, black leather chairs are grouped around polished wood tables and the ceilings are hung with giant birdcages. However, the Raven does not feel stuffy; everyone is dressed comfortably and loud chatter comes from those sitting at the bar. Apazidis wants the restaurant to "have a public atmosphere infused with really good gourmet food to attract a broad population."
There is no doubt that the Red Raven uses only the freshest ingredients. The restaurant has partnered with Springdell Farm in Littleton to take part in the 100 Mile Menu. Every Thursday through Saturday, the farm delivers fresh produce and the Red Raven creates a menu based around those ingredients.
There are three main menus -- brunch, lunch and dinner. The Raven also has a beer and wine menu, a libation menu, a Little Ravens menu and a dessert menu.
Brunch is only available on Sundays from 11:30 to 2:30. It features a smoked salmon board, Eggs Benedict, omelets, French toast, steak and eggs and biscuits plus sides of bacon, fries, biscuits and more.
For lunch, one can choose between snacks, soups, salads and sandwiches. Some favorites are the Sticky Wings with sesame glaze, the French onion soup topped with crispy onions, and the Quoth the Burger... Nevermore, which is a build-your-own burger.
The dinner menu has everything from a Mediterranean platter to a corn dog for starters. There are an array of soups, salads and sandwiches and an adult mac & cheese; the Quoth the Burger also makes another appearance. The entrees include mussels, fish, steak, sirloin, ribeye, chicken, risotto and lasagna.
Everything on the brunch menu costs around $11 with the most expensive being the Flat Iron Steak and Eggs which is $23. The sides average out to around $5 and the libations range from $9 to $13. On the lunch menu, the snacks are $3-$11, soups and salads are both $9, and the sandwiches are all around $13. Dinner starters range from $3 to $19, with the cheapest being the Salt and Vinegar Chips and the most expensive being the Seared Foie Gras. Cheese plates and meat boards range from $10-22, with soups and salads starting at $6. Entrees range from $13 to $36.
