Lara Maria Dudley of Westford, who recently earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, was honored with nearly 60 Gold Award recipients on June 23 at the Statehouse. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can achieve and it recognizes a service project that fulfills a need within a girl's community.
Dudley worked to provide pediatric patients in her mother's home country of Brazil with some much-needed comforts. With the helpf supporters in the U.S. and Brazil, she organized a fundraising event to benefit a hospital in an impoverished area of Brazil. She built a collection of toys, games, books and music to stock a children's recreation room. Hospital nurses will maintain the cataloguing system Dudley implemented for donated items, and she hopes that others will be inspired to continue donating to the center.
