Meghan McCain will guest host on "The View" next week, which will likely be a test run to see if she would be good for the job full-time, someone familiar with the situation told TheWrap.

ABC announced Thursday that Rosie O'Donnell will return to the show she left in 2007 after one season, joining Whoopi Goldberg on the panel. The show is searching for a conservative voice to replace Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who departed the show last summer.

McCain -- the daughter of former Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain -- is currently the co-host of Pivot's "Take Part Live."

McCain is seen as a progressive Republican who swings away from her party on social issues, such as gay marriage.

With sagging ratings, the show decided to part ways with Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy. If McCain were to join, ABC would still have at least one seat to fill before the show returns for its 18th season with Goldberg and O'Donnell on Sept. 15.
